In 2009, over 40 years after my first degree in Physics at Imperial College I enrolled for an MSc in Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems (EASy) at Sussex University and graduated with Distinction. I quote from the web site

The Department of Informatics ... in the University of Sussex at Brighton is home to one of the world's largest groups of researchers studying artificial evolutionary and adaptive systems. Such work is often described using names such as artificial life, evolutionary computation, and adaptive behaviour research. ...The study of natural and artificial evolutionary and adaptive systems are at the heart of important emerging approaches to artificial intelligence, cognitive science, computational biology and related areas.
